Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) was developed in Australia by Betty Kitchener and Anthony Jorm in 2001. Over two million people have been trained worldwide and the government has announced that it wants at least 1 million people to be trained in the UK by 2021. In 2016 Mental Health First Aid was recommended for all workplaces by the charity Business in the Community.

W2W Solutions Ltd is authorised by MHFA England to deliver the two-day adult version of the course training delegates to become “Mental Health First Aiders".

MHFA training courses teach people to spot the symptoms of mental health issues, offer initial help and guide a person towards support. The course does not teach people to be therapists, but teaches people to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis - and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

We became involved in MHFA because of our work within the welfare to work, employment and skills business; designing programmes for people who have high levels of poor mental health, and helping our customers to improve the services they deliver to disadvantaged people. However, MHFA is suitable for anyone who comes into contact with people as part of their job. This could be local authority personnel, receptionists in large companies or hotels, security personnel within retail, people working in cafés or hospitality, third sector volunteers working with disadvantaged people .... the list is endless.

The course can be delivered on an open basis e.g. people from a range of companies, or in-house for a single organisation.
