Work Programme - Select Committee Report

The Work & Pensions Select Committee has published their report into the Work Programme, which forms essential reading for anyone in the sector.

Interestingly the Committee says that it welcomes the design princples of the Conservative's radical flagship Work Programme, which continue the direction of the previous Government's employment programmes, particularly the Flexible New Deal.  Maybe it isn't so new and radical after all!

Of more concern is the worry the Committee has that there will still be "creaming and parking" and that there may be discrepancies in the quality of service in different regions.  The also question the financial viability for many service providers, and even prime contractors with regard to the high minimum performance levels set.  There isn't anything particularly earth shattering in the recommendations but the Committee do seem to have their finger on the pulse and have an appreciation of life on this side of the fence, which is very encouraging.
