Universal Credit - Welfare Reform Bill

Yesterday (16 February) saw the Welfare Reform Bill presented to Parliament paving the way for the introduction of the Universal Credit and associated changes to the welfare system. The main elements of the Bill are:

  • the introduction of Universal Credit
  • a stronger approach to reducing fraud and error
  • a new claimant commitment
  • reforms to Disability Living Allowance with the introduction of the Personal Independence Payment
  • changes to Housing Benefit
  • transferring payment of Social Fund to local authorities
  • reforming Employment and Support Allowance
  • a new system of child support
