U-skills e-learning solution for Skills for Life

This week Thirdforce, a global provider of e-learning and a National Employer Service (NES) approved supplier of Skills for Life training, launched their U-skills package.

Aimed at literacy and numeracy Entry Level 3, and Levels 1 & 2, the Thirdforce Skills Suite combines diagnostic tools to identify levels and skills gaps, with an individual learning plan and supporting learning  material to prepare learners to sit the National Test.

The e-learning content follows the 'assess-train-assess' model which provides flexible learner focused materials, and allows learners to work at their own pace. While  marketed as a solution to employers, it is clearly an ideal method of delivery for work based learning and Train to Gain it could also be embedded into the standard Skills for Life delivery within Welfare to Work, allowing higher level learners to work at their own pace, while the tutor focuses more on the pre-entry and entry levels 1 and 2 learners. It’s a possible solution to having mixed ability classes, which is a common problem within Welfare to Work delivery.

On a “pay as you go” pricing model you basically pay for each learner you want to register to the system. Thirdforce also provide a management system that enables you to track and monitor learner progress.

It seems like a potential solution to a long standing problem. If anyone out there has tried it or is thinking of it, we’d love to hear from you to see what you think.
