Self Employment - the Future

Anyone putting together a Work Programme bid at the moment will be looking at what they are going to offer with regard to self employment.  The latest BIS offering, a paper on Helping Small Firms Start, Grow & Propser, may provide some inspiration.

The paper outlines the governments future plans including:

  • Online business information and tools tailored to each business’ needs.
  • A national contact centre to help businesses who cannot find the information they need on the web or who are not connected to the internet.
  • Help for start-ups, including the New Enterprise Allowance and help for social housing tenants.
  • A network of at least 40,000 experienced business mentors offering practical advice.
  • Business Coaching for Growth, backing high growth SMEs to enable them to realise their potential.
  • Tailored action to raise low entrepreneurial activity among women, BAME groups and Service leavers.

The Business Link website is being overhauled and will include a Business Startup Hub and other online tools and Supply2gov.co.uk is being replaced with a free Contracts Finder to promote public sector contracts to SMEs.

The NEA will be launched in Merseyside later this month (so watch out for that) and will roll out nationally this Autumn.
