Reading for Pleasure

NIACE have produced some free posters for display within literacy and language classrooms aimed at sparking discussion and debate about numbers and maths to increase the number of people taking up numeracy training.  More people lack confidence in their maths skills than in literacy or language skills, but are less likely to do something about it, hence the new posters. Click here to access full details of how to order.

Following up on this news, led us to the Reading for Pleasure website, which many of you may not have come across.

The site contains resources that have been developed in partnership with the Reading Agency’s Vital Link programme and ‘Quick Reads’.  The site provides a suite of materials to promote reading for pleasure including:

  • CPD modules: Reading for pleasure in a number of contexts
  • Storytelling: CPD unit with lesson ideas
  • Take Your Partner: Engaging emergent adult readers
  • Technology and Reading: How to use blogs, wikis, iPods and e-books to promote reading
  • Putting two and 2 together: Creating a bridge between literacy and numeracy learning (the new numeracy posters fit into this category)

There are a number of resources to download and hard copies can be ordered (no charge) from the site.
