Personal Independence Payments

Following the recent announcement that ATOS and Capita have been awarded the contract for assessing Personal Indpendence Payments, DWP have provided updated information about the new benefit.  The frequently asked questions (click here) will be useful not only for claimants but also anyone who works with individuals that claim DLA.  A quick reference guide has been produced as well as a PowerPoint presentation that can be used by organisations to disseminate information.

PIP wil replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA) from April 2013 for disabled people aged 16 to 64. The key change is that the allowance will not depend upon the type of disability, but how the disability impacts on the individual, so benefit rates within a single area of disability could vary greatly.

By June 2013 no new claims will be taken for DLA and all claimants will claim PIP.  It will take three years for DWP to move all current claimants from DLA to PIP.
