Online Basics

UK Online Centres in partnership with Becta and have recently launched their Online Basics site which is aimed at supporting adults to get to grips with basic IT.  While people can attend local UK Online centres for support they can just register on line and learn anywhere there's a computer connection.

A useful free resource for anyone working with people who really do have little or no experience of computers, but there is also a safeguarding element teaching users how to keep safe online which may be useful in supporting the embedding of safeguarding into training delivery in a relevant and meaningful way.

Download the booklet below for more information or visit www.onlinebasics.co.uk.

There are plenty of other short courses available at www.myguide.gov.uk (who provide Online Basics) which include:

  • Using Facebook
  • Using a computer
  • Using public services online
  • Using the web
  • Using a mobile phone
  • Skills checkpoint
  • Online job hunting

We can't attest to the quality of these as we haven't gone through them, but anything that you can add to your arsenal of delivery tools has to be of some benefit.

Enjoy exploring.
