New Enterprise Allowance - Day One Entry

From today the New Enterprise Allowance scheme will be extended so that people are able to access the scheme from day one of their claim to Jobseeker's Allowance. Until now people had to wait six months to access the support , which provides help from a mentor as well as financial support in the form of a 26-week allowance and an unsecured loan of up to £1,000 to help with start-up costs.

In the first year more than 8,000 businesses have been set up using the scheme, including a mobile dog grooming business, a fine chocolate company, a counselling service, and a tapas restaurant. The deadline for new referrals to the scheme is being extended from March 2013 to December 2013 to ensure that the target to create 40,000 new businesses will be met.
