Management of CEPs

In amongst the furore surrounding the Spending Review the House of Commons Work & Pensions Committee has published Management and Administration of Contracted Employment Programmes: Government Response to the Committee's Fourth Report of Session 2009–10.

We were considering covering the Spending Review but feel this has been done to death by others and is easily researched.  One thing worth highlighting however, in case anyone got carried away in the excitement - the much heralded increase in apprenticeships for adults comes against the abolition of Train to Gain so they giveth, but they taketh away.  Oh for the days of "Things Can Only Get Better"!

But back to the Work & Pensions Committee Report.  Quite frankly, the Government response to the queries raised by the Committee is a political side step.  Generic, bland and failing to recognise some of the very pertinent and insightful comments made by the Committee about the management and administration of CEPs.  It will be interesting to see the next instalment as we do hope the Committee bears its teeth a bit more to make DWP sit up, take notice and actually DO something instead of hiding behind Merlin.
