High Heels - Bad for Your Health

In an effort to bring you important and relevant news (in what is otherwise a slow news period as everyone is on holiday) we thought this news item could not be overlooked.

Women who wear high-heeled shoes in the workplace are putting their health at risk (apparently).  Not only are high heels a health risk but also can be demeaning to women. This is such a major issue that the TUC may be debating it during its annual conference.

It is actually the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists who have tabled the motion calling for employers who have a dress codes that promote high heels to examine the hazards their workers face and ensure that proper risk assessments are carried out.  Where these show the wearing of high heels is hazardous they should be replaced with sensible and comfortable shoes.  They state that, "women should feel secure in the knowledge that their employers will support them in maintaining healthy feet."

Apparently many employers in the retail sector force women workers to wear high heels as part of their dress code.  Surely there's a raft of equality and discrimination legislation that should come into play here - irrespective of health, safety and generally loving your feet.

Well, whatever the outcome ... be nice to your feet!
