Employers Encouraged to Support Youth Contract

Minister for Employment, Mark Hoban, has launched a Youth Contract: Works for me advertising drive on local radio stations in a bid to raise awareness of the Youth Contract. He is urging businesses to take advantage of 160,000 wage incentives which give employers up to £2,275 when they take on a young person who has been unemployed for more than six months.

Over the next two weeks the Youth Contract advertising campaign will feature on local radio stations across the North East, before working its way down the country to radio stations in Yorkshire & the Humber, and Birmingham throughout February.  This suggests that the wage incentives aren't quite having the impact that the Government hoped in helping young people into work in these areas.  It will be interesting to see if there are any official figures published about the take up on the wage incentives across the country.
